The Cranberry Ice Trail is the only ice skating trail with an onsite winery. After a skate, relax by a rustling fire while sipping on hot mulled cider or wine. Better yet, finish with their wine tasting experience.

#2 Mush! The Ultimate Winter Bucket-List Experience

The thrill of the Arctic and one of the great Canadian winter experiences is ready for you to try in Muskoka. Mush through the beautiful Muskoka wilderness behind your team of dogs at North Ridge Ranch.

#3 Fat biking through the snowy wilderness

No other winter activity has grown in popularity as much as fat biking in recent years. Fat biking is one of the greatest winter activities you can get into, and it is so simple to do. Liv Outside in Bracebridge has rentals and trails on-site, and Algonquin Outfitters in Huntsville has bikes for rent with trails nearby. Be sure to register for the 2nd Annual Muskoka Winter Bike Festival on February 1, 2019!

#4 Sleddin’

With over 1200 km of exceptionally groomed trails and unlimited touring opportunities, we’ve got your snow! For the inexperienced, guided tours with rentals are available from Muskoka Stay n’ Play Tours. If you have a good comfort level on the trails, check out our local sled rental companies. Reserve your machines early though, when the snow flies the phones start ringing off the hook!

#5 Skiing Cross Country

Muskoka has 100’s of kms of top notch cross country ski trails, so it is no wonder that skiers flock from all corners of the province to strap on the skis. Some of the best trails in the province are found at Arrowhead Provincial Park, with a full fleet of ski rentals on-site for beginners.

A number of resorts even boast their own cross country ski trails so you can sleep, eat and play, all in one place: Bayview Wildwood Resort (8km), Cedar Grove Lodge (10km), Deerhurst Resort (5km), Bondi Village Cottage Resort (15km) and Sherwood Inn (1km).

#6 Snowshoeing the beautiful back country

It is tough to have a list of Muskoka winter activities and not include snowshoeing. Recreational snowshoeing is immensely popular in Muskoka today, featuring hundreds of kms of great trails throughout the region. If you are looking for trails with rentals on-site, try Liv Outside in Bracebridge, Muskoka Lakes Farm & Winery in Bala, the Gravenhurst KOA and Arrowhead Provincial Park in Huntsville.

Is there anything more magical than a horse drawn sleigh ridethrough a winter wonderland? Perfect winter activity for an afternoon with your family or a romantic evening ride with your hunny. Back of Beyond Equine Centre and Twin Maples Farm both offer memorable winter sleigh rides at their farms.

#9 Ice Fishing

The great Canadian winter pastime, ice fishing is tremendously popular in Muskoka. New to the sport? Muskoka Stay n’ Play Tours offers guided ice fishing tours complete with gear, heated hut, bait, and will even prepare your catch out on the ice for lunch!

Sep 22 Covid-19 Update

In accordance with the Ontario Provincial Government, starting September 22, 2021, we will require all guests 12 years of age and older to provide proof of being fully vaccinated in order to use our shared indoor facilities and amenities. Proof of vaccination will be required to use our indoor restaurant, indoor swimming areas, indoor event and conference areas. The Ontario Government considers an individual as fully vaccinated 14 days following the final dose of an approved vaccine treatment. Proof of vaccination will be required at entry, along with photo ID. Children under the age of 12 currently not eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine are exempt and do not require any validations to enter the resort. Masks continue to be mandatory in all indoor spaces.

There are many reasons why you should visit Muskoka, check them out below.

Maple Syrup: From mid-March to mid-April, maple syrup takes centre stage in Muskoka, with the area’s maple farms offering tours to see how Canada’s favourite sweet treat is produced. Restaurants get in on the act with maple-themed dishes while even the local breweries have special maple-flavoured offerings. 

Arrowhead Provincial Park: In winter, Arrowhead Provincial Park, just north of Huntsville, is a snowy playground where you can go skiing, skating or snowshoeing. In the warmer months, it offers hiking, biking, kayaking and canoeing, camping or simply sunbathing on the lakeside beaches. 

Steamships: In summer, three steamships sail the lakes of Muskoka just like these stately vessels used to do 150 years ago. While the Wenonah II is a replica built in 2002, the Royal Mail Ship Segwun and the Wanda III are the real deal, having been built in 1887 and 1915 respectively.

The Views: There are spectacular views to be had throughout Muskoka, especially in autumn when the leaves are a riot of colour. Two of the best spots are Lions lookout overlooking Huntsville and Fairy Lake, and the 100-foot Dorset Scenic lookout tower just north of Dorset.

Beer: With many craft breweries in Muskoka, you will never go thirsty on a hot day. Muskoka Brewery, Sawdust City Brewery, Lake of Bays Brewery and Canvas Brewery are waiting for you to visit and taste some amazing Muskoka Beer. Huntsville Beer Festival 

Festivals: Throughout the year Muskoka hosts festivals and events celebrating everything from art, music and great food. These include the Baysville walkabout Festival, Dockside Festival of the Arts, Bala Cranberry Festival, Maple Festival.

Muskoka Heritage Place: Located in Huntsville, Muskoka Heritage Place lets you travel back in time. Here you’ll find the Muskoka Museum, the Muskoka Pioneer Village and the fabulously fun Portage Flyer, a steam train that takes you on a scenic trip along the Muskoka River. 

Golf: Muskoka is one of Canada’s most popular golfing destinations. Choose from the variety of courses to find one that suits your skill level or try them all by booking a golf package. 

Diving: The lakes of Muskoka offer excellent freshwater diving and snorkelling. You can even explore shipwrecks such as the Waome in Lake Muskoka’s Milford Bay or the S.S. Mohawk and S.S. Mary Louise in the Lake of Bays’ Portage Bay.   

Rotary DockFest: One of the most unusual sporting events in Muskoka is the Rotary DockFest held every summer in Huntsville. While there’s nothing strange about watching participants race through obstacles on the Muskoka River, you might do a double take when you see what their choice of vessel is: bathtubs! 

Farmers’ Markets: The farmers’ markets of Muskoka offer the best in fresh produce, homemade goodies and arts and crafts. There are markets in Gravenhurst, Huntsville, Bala, Port Carling, Bracebridge, Rosseau, Baysville and Dwight. 

Visual Arts: In the early 20th century, the Group of Seven found inspiration in Muskoka for their paintings of the Canadian landscape. You’ll still find many galleries and art studios throughout the region or you can simply admire the mural known as the Port Carling Wall. 

Waterfalls: Muskoka boasts nearly 20 gorgeous waterfalls, some of which require a bit of a hike while others, such as the Bracebridge Falls (pictured), can be seen from the road. Ragged Falls near Huntsville is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in the area. 

Hidden Valley Highlands Ski Hill: Great ski slopes to enjoy a family or individual experience with a hill side resort (us) with ski in ski out abilities. This ski hill is for all level of skiers and boasts the bragging rights on having Dara Howell a local who won the Olympic Gold Medal at the 2014 Sochi games.
